Children’s Mercy and Paul Rudd team up again for Season 2 of ‘Inside Pediatrics’

The Emmy Award-winning TV series premieres Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. on KMBC

A premiere party for Inside Pediatrics Season 2, a four-part documentary series narrated by Kansas City native and actor Paul Rudd, added some star power to Cinetopia in Overland Park last night. Along with Rudd, featured families walked the red carpet before viewing Episode 1.

“I’m honored to be involved with Inside Pediatrics for the second year in a row. This is a very personal project for me,” Rudd says. “I get to meet these remarkable kids every year when I visit Children’s Mercy for our Big Slick Weekend [the annual fundraiser hosted by Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Rob Riggle, David Koechner and Eric Stonestreet]. I don’t think anyone can understand what happens every day at a hospital like this unless you’re here, and you meet the families and the staff. Inside Pediatrics takes you there.”

Inside Pediatrics Season 2 follows 23 patients from 16 different cities. Among them, viewers will meet little Pepito, a 3-year-old boy with Hodgkins Lymphoma who along with his family is bracing for a tough battle ahead. Then there’s 9-year-old Gary whose parents must decide if surgery is the answer for Gary’s epilepsy. They’ll also get to share 18-year-old Julious’s story. Julious is a standout athlete who needs his ACL repaired to have any chance of playing college sports.

Coolfire Studios filmed for more than three months at the hospital, capturing real and powerful moments from Children’s Mercy patients, families, doctors and nurses. Cameras went inside the clinics and operating rooms, inside the families’ experiences and inside the hearts and minds of the medical staff that provide transformational care for the children in the Kansas City region and beyond.
