Kansas City Star: Movie stars, Big Slick veterans among celeb guests attending yearly event

Big Slick raises money for the Children's Mercy Cancer Center

By Aaron Randle

CNN journalist Jake Tapper and actors Charlie Day, Adam Devine and Will Forte are the first wave of guests to be announced for Big Slick Celebrity Weekend 2018.

The four will join hometown hosts Rob Riggle, Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Eric Stonestreet and David Koechner on June 1 and 2 to raise money for the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy hospital.

Organizers are expecting 36 Big Slick guests this year, the most ever.

This will be the first Big Slick appearance for Day and Devine.

The celebs will join in on multiple events, including two that are open to the public:

The celebrity softball game at 5 p.m. June 1 at Kauffman Stadium. Anyone with a ticket to the Royals vs. Oakland Athletics game at 7:15 p.m. that night can come early to watch the celebrity game beforehand. If you purchase through royals.com/bigslick, $5 goes to the charity.

▪ Tickets are sold out for the bowling tournament at Pinstripes in the Prairiefire shopping center in Overland Park on June 2. But there's no charge for an outdoor block party from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., which includes the celebrity red carpet arrival.

Since its beginnings in 2010 as a charity poker tournament, Big Slick has raised more than $6.2 million toward research, hospital amenities and medical equipment. Last year alone, Big Slick raised a record $1.75 million.
