Visitor restrictions for inpatient units effective March 1

Children’s Mercy is seeing an unusually high number of respiratory viruses – which are easily spread – so the hospital is taking preventive measures to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff members. Effective Tuesday, March 1, visitor restrictions for children under 12 will go into effect for inpatient units. The number of influenza cases diagnosed at Children’s Mercy doubled from one week to the next in late February, and the hospital also has experienced increasing numbers of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and coronavirus cases, too.

Visitors (including siblings) 12 years old and younger will not be permitted to visit inpatient units. Signs will be posted throughout the hospital. Thank you for helping keep our patients, families and staff members safe
