Young Cancer Patient has Special Day at Arrowhead Stadium

3-year-old Matthew got to see Chiefs beat Raiders

A lot of Chiefs fans braved Sunday’s cold to see the team beat the Oakland Raiders, but the game was unforgettable for a very young fan battling cancer.

Matthew Martin not only got to attend his first game at Arrowhead, it was also the 3-year-old’s first trip away from Children’s Mercy since he was diagnosed with leukemia in April.

Matthew spends hours each day hooked up to tubes while receiving cancer treatments at the hospital. He and his mother now live at the Ronald McDonald House nearby.

The Chiefs learned about their young fan and invited Matthew and his mother to Sunday’s game.

“We sit in this room every day, so for him just to be able to see other Chiefs fans, he was excited to see other people,” said his mother, Amanda Moore. “He absolutely loved it.”
