Children's Mercy Enrolling for Summer 'Rhyming to Reading' Class

Children’s Mercy offers a research based pre-reading program 'Rhyming to Reading' three times a year and is currently enrolling for the summer session, which begins the first week of June at the Children’s Mercy Hearing and Speech Clinic located at 5520 College Boulevard in Overland Park, Kansas.

Rhyming to Reading teaches children early reading skills such as rhyming, sentence awareness, the sounds letters make and how to sound out words. Children are taught through the use of their senses of sight, hearing and touch to increase learning. The program is play-based and involves movement which makes it fun to learn how to read. Parents have the opportunity to watch the classes and learn how to do pre-reading activities at home.

The reading program is designed for children who are at least four years of age and have not entered first grade. Classes are conducted in small groups (three to six children per group) and consists of two levels. Children will be pre-tested to determine which level is appropriate. The first level of the class is an eight-week program and the second level of the class is a six-week program. Classes are held once a week for an hour.

For additional information about class days, times and fees or to schedule your child's pre-testing call (816) 960-4025. Space is limited.
