Children's Mercy expands services in Southern Johnson County

Children's Mercy Blue Valley opens its doors offering Urgent Care and Sports Medicine Clinics and celebrates donations of more than $250,000.

Children's Mercy Blue Valley, 6750 135th Street, Overland Park, KS, starts seeing patient's on Thursday, Decemeber 12. The 15,000 square foot location offers Urgent Care services, Sports Medicine clinics and Sports Physical Therapy. Children's Mercy Urgent Care College Boulevard, 5520 College Blvd, Overland Park, Kan., will no longer offer Urgent Care services starting Thursday, December 12.

"Visits to our Urgent Care Center in Johnson County are up nearly 20 percent. In fiscal year 2014, we expect more than 18,000 patient visits to our Urgent Care Center at Children's Mercy Blue Valley and the new location doubles the size of our previous Urgent Care Center in Johnson County," says Marshaun Butler, Vice President, Children's Mercy South and Regional Medical Practices. "We're also excited to bring our experienced Sports Medicine Services to the area. Now, the children and families living in this community will have access closer to home."

Children's Mercy Blue Valley includes 16 exams rooms for Urgent Care and Sports Medicine, a state-of-the-art, 3,500 square foot, sports medicine gym which includes a track lane, small basketball court and exercise equipment for Sports Physical Therapy.

Today, Children's Mercy Blue Valley recognized The Trent Green Family Foundation, Nick and Jake's "Fore the Kids" golf tournament and George Shaw Construction for donating , combined gifts of almost $250,000.

"These generous gifts are helping provide much needed services to the children and families in this community," Butler says. "The Trent Green Family Foundation, Nick and Jake's "Fore the Kids" Golf Tournament and George Shaw Construction are helping Children's Mercy expand our services across the Kansas City community."

Urgent Care at Children's Mercy Blue Valley is offered every day, noon to 10 p.m. This location
doubles the size of its previous location, Children's Mercy Urgent Care College Boulevard.

Urgent Care provides care for children with minor injuries or illnesses that are not considered life threatening, but require prompt attention. Typical conditions seen in urgent care may include abdominal complaints, minor allergic reactions, minor cuts and burns, respiratory conditions, simple fractures, strains and sprains, seasonal illnesses, and uncomplicated skin rashes and lesions. Children's Mercy Blue Valley is supported by radiology with plain film x-ray and lab testing including CBC, BMP, rapid strep, mono, influenza and RSV, as well as glucose, hemoglobin and urinalysis.

Patients requiring emergency services will be referred to the pediatric emergency departments at Children's Mercy South, 5808 W. 110th, in Overland Park, or our Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Emergency Department at Children's Mercy Hospital Adele Hall Campus, 2401 Gillham Rd., in Kansas City, Mo.

Children's Mercy Blue Valley will also offer Sports Medicine Clinics and Sports Physical Therapy for young athletes with acute or chronic sports-related injuries, dislocations, concussions or fractures. Sports Medicine appointments are offered five days a week by appointment only. Sports Medicine Clinics will continue to be offered at Children's Mercy South, Children's Mercy Northland, Children's Mercy East and Children's Mercy Hospital Adele Hall Campus.

Nick and Jake's Restaurant and owner, Kevin Timmons coordinates Fore the Kids, the annual golf tournament to support Children's Mercy Hospital and the Blue Valley Education Foundation. George Shaw Construction is presenting sponsor each year. The tournament, held in the fall, includes a steak dinner and live auction after the day of golf at the Overland Park location. This tournament has raised almost $500,000 during the last 5 years to support the hospital.
