Children's Mercy Kansas City is ALL IN to support health workforce wellbeing
We are proud to share that Children’s Mercy has been named a 2025 Wellbeing First Champion through the American Medical Association and the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation. This distinction means that our credentialing and peer evaluation documents are free from stigmatizing language around mental health and team members can seek care without fear of losing their license or job.
This accomplishment has been verified by ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare — a national coalition of leading health care organizations that works to remove barriers for health workers to access mental health care.
In the midst of a global mental health crisis, the Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation emerged. Named after Dr. Breen, a compassionate and dedicated physician who tragically lost her life to suicide, the foundation is committed to reducing burnout among health care professionals. The foundation emphasizes that seeking mental health services is a sign of strength, not weakness. By advising health care industries on wellbeing initiatives, working to reduce stigma, and funding research, the foundation strives to create a healthier and more supportive environment for all health care workers.
Her legacy also inspired the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act — a landmark legislation aimed at protecting and supporting those who tirelessly care for others.
