Children's Mercy lands $2M gift

It has been a good week for Children's Mercy. The hospital announced a $2 million gift Thursday from ongoing supporters Elizabeth Ferrell and her family. The announcement was a birthday party of sorts for Ferrell, 75, who is the namesake of the hospital's Fetal Health Center.

Dr. Timothy Bennett was named as the first endowed chair courtesy of Ferrell's gift. He will be the medical director of fetal health services.

"While uncommon for babies to be born at a children's hospital, it's impossible to overstate the benefits for families giving birth to very high-risk infants," Bennett said in a release. "The Ferrell family's generosity assures these families that their newborn immediately receives the specialized care that a comprehensive children's hospital provides."
