Children's Mercy Park kicks off the season with employee open house

Children's Mercy Park Employee Open House

Children's Mercy employees and families enjoyed an all-access day at Children's Mercy Park, taking them behind the scenes at the stadium where Sporting KC has enjoyed a perfect start to their season.

More than 4,300 employees and family members explored the state-of-the-art facility and enjoyed the new Children's Mercy signs that greet fans from every direction. As temperatures dipped on a brisk Saturday, spirits soared as kids found countless activities from the moment they entered the park. Bounce houses and futsal courts kept kids moving, while activities with the Child Life and Star Power teams gave them a chance to catch their breath. Our Critical Care Transport team provided a popular stop, where families toured an ambulance from our fleet.

Inside Children's Mercy Park, families checked out the players' front-row seats, the UMB Field Club and the adjoining press conference room, where they were able to take pictures with the 2013 MLS Cup and Open Cup trophies from 2012 and 2015. The all-access tour also included the Shield Club and Boulevard Members Club, complete with popup shops filled with Sporting Style merchandise.

Special guests included Sporting KC stars Chance Myers and Graham Zusi, who signed autographs and snapped photos with kids, as well as several superheroesprincesses and Star Wars characters(Click any of the links to see/share the pictures on Facebook,)

One of the highlights of the day for attendees of all ages was watching Children's Mercy artist-in-residence Scribe create a live painting during the course of the event. Click these links to see photos of the work in progress - from start to midway to completion.

The fun continued the following night, when Dr. Kevin Latz, Dr. Donna Pacicca and Dr. Greg Canty from the Center for Sports Medicine joined Teen Advisory Board members to present the game ball and preside over the coin toss. Such a wonderful weekend for the Children's Mercy-Sporting KC team, and the season is just getting started!
