Children's Mercy ranked #4 in Parents Magazine '10 Best Children's Hospitals for Orthopedic Care'

The hospital's Center for Sports Medicine is one of a handful of programs in the country with pediatric-trained sports-medicine specialists who team up with surgical, nonsurgical, medical, rehabilitation, and research departments to get athletes back in the game safely.

The Children's Mercy Orthopaedics Division is ranked #4 and Children's Mercy Hospitals & Clinics is ranked #14 overall in the Parents Magazine survey of the Top 10 Best Children's Hospitals in the U.S. The #14 Children's Mercy ranking is up eight spots from our last Parents ranking four years ago.

The list will appear in the March 2013 issue of Parents, which will be available on newsstands nationwide on Feb. 12.

Parents said its survey, "provides the most comprehensive, family-focused, data-driven comparison of pediatric facilities. The research emphasized treatment success rates, groundbreaking research studies and staff expertise as well as experimental cancer studies, average waits of an hour or less in the E.R. and innovative support groups for patients and their families."

Hospitals are ranked by Parents editors with input from a team of medical advisors based on their responses to detailed questions in the following areas: survival rates for childhood cancer, pediatric heart disease, and other critical conditions; their expertise in performing certain complex procedures; the depth of the research program; safeguards to prevent medical errors; staffing ratios and quality; community outreach; and services that address the emotional needs of families of outpatients and inpatients.
