Enrollment Open: 'Rhyming to Reading' Program

Children’s Mercy is now enrolling for its research based pre-reading program designed for children 4-6 years of age that have not entered first grade.

'Rhyming to Reading’ teaches early reading skills such as rhyming, sentence awareness, the sounds letters make and how to sound out words. Children are taught through the use of their senses of sight, hearing and touch to increase learning. The program is play-based and involves movement which makes it fun to learn how to read. Parents have the opportunity to watch the classes and learn how to do pre-reading activities at home.

Classes are conducted in small groups (three to six children per group) and consists of two levels. Children will be pre-tested to determine which level is appropriate. The first level of the class is an eight-week program and the second level of the class is a six-week program. Classes are held once a week for an hour.

Classes are offered at Children’s Mercy Hearing and Speech Clinic located at 5520 College Boulevard (Suite 370) in Overland Park, Kansas and Children’s Mercy North Clinic located at 501 NW Barry Road in Kansas City, Missouri (South of Metro North Mall).

For additional information about class days, times and fees or to schedule your child's pre-testing call (913) 696-5786. Space is limited.
