Joplin, Kansas City hospitals add telemedicine to pediatric specialties

Payton Varner was scheduled for a fairly routine medical appointment Tuesday in Joplin.

But things took a high-tech turn when a nurse hooked him up to a stethoscope connected to a microphone, TV screen and video camera that would allow his physician - in Kansas City - to assess his heartbeat in real time.
