By Frida Humphreville

Kansas City's healthcare industry has seen some real estate changes so far in 2026, including a $1 billion announcement from Children's Mercy.

Here’s a list of Kansas City hospitals or clinics with construction or transaction news announced so far this year.

Children’s Mercy Adele Hall campus modernization

Location: 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City

Description: Children's Mercy plans a $1 billion expansion, the single largest capital investment in the hospital’s history. Children's Mercy looks to fund the project using $1.02 billion in operating cash flow and cash, $500 million in debt and $200 million in philanthropy. In June, Children’s Mercy secured $409.1 million in bonds.

The project will add two high-rises. The first would add fetal health clinic space; labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum units; operating rooms; and sterile processing. The second would create a new campus entrance and house the neonatal, cardiac and pediatric ICUs; medical surgery beds; surgery, imaging and emergency department facilities; and parking.

The project is expected to be completed in 2031. HDR is the architect.
