Kansas City Business Journal: The Growth Imperative. New Children's Mercy CEO Quiroga recognizes the importance and benefits of scaling - for the system and its patients

When Dr. Alejandro Quiroga was named as CEO of Children’s Mercy Kansas City in December, he inherited a number of big undertakings, including a multimillion-dollar mental health project and several expansion plans.
Quiroga’s background — leading a sprawling 10-hospital system in Michigan — translates well to one of his key responsibilities and hospital leaders’ and board members’ long-term visions for Children’s Mercy: overseeing the hospital’s expanding regional footprint in Wichita, Overland Park and Springfield.
“It really has prepared me, so I'm humbled by that,” Quiroga said of his time leading Corewell Health West, where he was president of the $4.2 billion system for two years and held various leadership roles for more than a decade. “It's been a great opportunity to see that complexity on a different scale and distill it to what we need to do here.”
