Kansas City Star: Big Slick Celebrity Weekend tickets on sale this week, with Sprint Center as a venue

By Glenn E. Rice

Tickets for the annual Big Slick Celebrity Weekend, which over the last decade has raised millions for the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy Hospital, go on sale this week, organizers announced Monday.

The 10th annual Big Slick happens June 7-8 at several locations across Kansas City.

Big Slick’s Saturday night party and show is moving from Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland to the more spacious Sprint Center. The move will make 5,000 tickets available to the general public, up from about 1,500 at the Midland, which quickly sold out.

A bevy of big-name celebrity guests (to be announced later) are expected to perform. Organizers are hinting the show will feature “more music, more comedy.”

Tickets for the Saturday night party range from $79, for standard lower level seating, to $200 for premium seats that include an open bar.

Big Slick has raised more than $8 million to fight cancer since 2010. This year’s event is poised to surpass the record $2.1 million raised last year.

Children’s Mercy has used the proceeds to explore genomics and personalized medicine for pediatric cancer patients. It also allowed the hospital to expand its bone marrow transplant unit, purchase early detection equipment and add entertainment systems to every oncology hospital room.
