KC Business Journal: Another local hospital picks Children's Mercy for NICU staffing

Olathe Health has teamed up with Children's Mercy to expand its services in the neonatal intensive care unit at Olathe Medical Center.

Beginning May 1, neonatal nurse practitioners with Children's Mercy will provide 24/7, on-site support at Olathe's flagship hospital, which is located at 20333 W. 151st St. near Interstate 35.

Olathe Health CEO Stan Holm said it's a collaboration that has been in the works since he and Children's Mercy CEO Paul Kempinski stepped into their respective roles, which happened to be on the same day — Nov. 1, 2018.

"Being married to a pediatric nurse, I've always had a deep appreciation for the importance of mother-baby care," Kempinski said. "Keeping families in the communities in which they live provides a sense of comfort and familiarity, and I think that contributes to the treatment and healing process."
