KC Business Journal: Children's Mercy researcher creates 'foolproof' solution for challenging vital sign

Dr. Susan Abdel-Rahman is changing the way physicians across the globe calculate a child's vital signs through a simple, yet groundbreaking medical device: a tape measure.
Mercy TAPE, a tape-measure-like device that accurately estimates the body weight of children ages 2 to 16, and Mercy babyTAPE, which measures infants up to 90 days old, have changed the game for physicians in situations where a scale may not be available or practical to use.
Abdel-Rahman, director of innovation in health care delivery research for Children's Mercy Research Institute, recognized the need for a device that could quickly and accurately estimate weight — a fundamental and critical measurement for health.
