KCTV 5: Children's Mercy Night Lights brightens holiday season for young patients

A swarm of emergency vehicles surrounded Children’s Mercy Hospital Wednesday night, but it wasn’t an emergency. It was an effort to bring holiday cheer to kids cooped up in the hospital.

The event, called Children’s Mercy Night Lights, is in its fourth year. It features police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and tow trucks flashing their lights for kids and families to see out the windows as they circle the hospital’s research building.

“We do trees and Santa Claus, too, at the hospital, but that’s all inside the hospital. We have so many people in the community that want to show their gratitude and their respect to our patients here. This is their way of giving back,” said Trista Cobbins, Children’s Mercy Hospital manager of patient and family programs.
