KCTV 5: World Cup cheers help Kansas City boy recover after burn pit accident

A young boy is recovering at Children’s Mercy after his parents said he fell into a burn pit while visiting a neighbor’s home.

Matt and Andrea Holmes said their son, Christian, fell backward into the burn pit on Saturday night. Andrea Holmes said she did not initially realize how serious the injuries were.

The Holmes family said neighbors who happened to be first responders helped get Christian to Children’s Mercy, saving what they described as valuable time.

Andrea Holmes said the family has spent about five days talking with doctors and waiting for a treatment plan. She said doctors believe Christian may need skin grafts to repair the damage from the burns.
