KMBC 9: Children's Mercy urgent cares requiring appointments amid surge in patients

Hospitals are starting to feel the effects of an increase in numbers for COVID-19 and other illnesses.

A new policy went into effect last week at Children's Mercy urgent cares throughout the KC area. It asks that parents go and reserve a spot online for an appointment. Same day appointments are available.

It is the result of a significant increase in patients over the past few weeks. They expect numbers to continue going up in June.

The clinics say the increase is not directly tied to COVID-19 cases, but more of what they call wintertime in summer.
