KMBC 9: Clinton teen leading normal life after receiving new heart valve at Children's Mercy

Mason M.

By Alan Shope

It's a first-of-its-kind procedure in the Kansas City area and it is helping a Clinton teenager live a normal life.

Mason was born with a congenital heart defect.

"He was about 2-weeks-old when he had his first balloon procedure," Rachel Munsch said.

Mason was having heart issues and trouble breathing.

"It helps them avoid undergoing an open heart surgery at least for the next several years or even decades," said Dr. Stephen Kaine, of Children's Mercy Hospital.
