Mosaic Life Care has partnered with Children’s Mercy Kansas City to provide better care and support to newborns in St. Joseph.

Neonatal advanced practice nurses from Children’s Mercy will be onsite in St. Joseph to provide 24/7 care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as through telemedicine with various neonatologists.

“It’s a unique program, that we’re able to have both the onsite presence of really skilled practitioners who can help a lot with the babies and us (neonatologists) remoting in ... to help take care of them,” Steven Olsen, interim division director of neonatology at Children’s Mercy said.

Olsen will serve the NICU at Mosaic Life Care as its medical director.

Children’s Mercy is the region’s only Level IV NICU, and provides care for complex births and critically ill newborns. Last year, 42 infants were transported from Mosaic Life Care to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City due to their need for critical care.
