Statement from the Family of 13-year-old Gage Banks

We want to thank the community for praying for Gage.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and phenomenal. People all over the world have been praying for Gage. We want to thank the incredible staff at Children's Mercy and the first responders at the cross country meet.

Gage went into full cardiac arrest on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, while running in a cross country meet. After further testing, doctors at Children's Mercy have diagnosed Gage with a congenital heart defect which means Gage was born with this condition. Gage is expected to have heart surgery next month. We feel like this incident was a blessing in disguise and that God has given Gage a second chance at life. We are truly blessed that Gage is recovering from this traumatic event. We expect to take Gage home next week to continue to recover and prepare for surgery.

We hold this scripture close to our heart at this time. Philippines 4:13: I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

We ask the community to please share your kind words and support at #Pray4Gage.
