Tom Wright receives Marshall University alumni award

Tom Wright, EVP/Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Director of the Leadership Center within the CM Berry Institute, has been honored as an inductee into Marshall University’s Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) chapter Hall of Distinction.

Each year, Marshall SHRM recognizes Marshall University alumni for outstanding human resource management achievements and distinguished service in their profession, community and alma mater. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Marshall, as well as a master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University.

Marshall also has named Tom among the Outstanding Black Alumni of the university and in 2019 he was a Dean’s Distinguished Speaker for Marshall’s Lewis College of Business.

Throughout his 33-year career – 16 years of which was spent at Hallmark Cards in several leadership roles, including Senior Vice President of HR – Tom has been recognized as a transformational HR leader, with a solid record of helping companies achieve success through employee engagement, talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning and executive coaching.

In 2018, Tom retired from his role as SVP of HR and Administration at EPR Properties, transitioning to the role of business consultant, HR advisor and board member to multiple organizations, including Samuel U. Rogers Health Center, Teach for America, Turn the Page Kansas City and the Kansas City Zoo. Tom is an alumnus of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Kansas City Tomorrow Leadership Program and has been recognized as one of Kansas City’s 100 Most Influential African-Americans.
