What are measles?

The number of measles cases from the outbreak that started in Disneyland last month nearly doubled this week.

At least 85 cases are now confirmed in seven states. Measles was declared eliminated (absence of continuous disease transmission for greater than 12 months) from the U.S. in 2000. This was possible thanks to a highly effective vaccination program and better measles control in the U.S.
