Statement and Patient Letter Regarding Former Employee Brian Aalbers, D.O.

STATEMENT:

Brian Aalbers, D.O., the Overland Park, Kansas pediatric neurologist who has been charged with attempted production and possession of child pornography, was on staff at Children’s Mercy beginning May 2014 and ending May 2017, more than six years ago.

Our patients’ safety and well-being is our highest priority, and we take this matter seriously. A thorough review of the three-year period Dr. Aalbers was on staff at Children’s Mercy is underway.

We have mailed letters to the patients who saw Dr. Aalbers during the time he was on Children’s Mercy’s staff, including parents and guardians of patients who are still minors, to inform them of the charges, and to provide resources available to support them.

Dear Patient/Parent/Guardian:

We are writing to let you know Brian Aalbers, D.O., an Overland Park, Kansas pediatric neurologist who was on staff at Children’s Mercy from May 2014 to May 2017, has been charged by Federal law enforcement authorities with attempted production of child pornography.  

Our patients’ safety and well-being is our highest priority, and we take this matter seriously.  A thorough review of the three-year period Dr. Aalbers was on staff at Children’s Mercy is underway.  

Our records indicate you or your child received treatment from Dr. Aalbers during his time at Children’s Mercy. We know this information regarding Dr. Aalbers is unsettling. If you have any questions or concerns about a child’s care relative to this situation, we have staff available to answer your questions and provide support Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please call our dedicated phone line, (816) 895-5151, to speak with one of our social workers.
